Giant's "Check It"

Here are two shots of Giant's "Check It" scanner.

First is the fun to hold and use device (if you've registered for wedding gifts you may have done something similar before).

The second is the semi helpful, semi annoying chirped coupon that comes up. I believe these merely to be what is on special already, not new/special coupons for using the device.

Checking out was easy, only make sure to not put your stuff in the bagging area or it isn't happy.

Why no "paste" in Opera's address bar?

Why make it harder for me to use your browser?

Speaking of that:
- why does Opera skip half way down a page when clicking on a "#<link>"?
- why can't I get FriendFeed to accept my username and password with Opera?

How do I get MSFT Word to be in blue/white mode but not Outlook?

Using MSFT Word in the blue background and white text mode is a good break for your eyes, it helps prevent fatigue. And since my wife thinks I've been squinting recently (which I'm not, maybe) I am trying to make sure to take small steps to help out my eyes (not sitting in a little cube staring at computer screens would help).

So how do I get Word to be in blue/white mode but not Outlook? When I changed the Options in either, it affected the other.

Great wall, crazy "food"

I went to Great Wall with my wife for the first time last night, and I'm not sure if I'm going back (she will continue to go, as Great Wall has the absolute best prices on produce we've ever seen; we've saved a lot of money there).

The store itself is rather austere, probably one of the reasons they can afford such cheap prices. I have no qualms with the look/feel of the store. And I really dig all the unique products that they have (I saw a drink that was from the seed of a plant I've never heard of, but by golly it looked refreshing).

Along the back wall (not that great a wall; that joke stunk) they have fish and meats. Which included the following:

I have no clue what a "buffolo" fish is, but there it was. While some of the pics are blurry, it's because the creatures in the pictures were alive and squirming.

PS: that part of the store didn't smell so great.

What I want in a perfect Blackberry Browswer

Combine the Bberry browser with Opera.

I like the scrolling button with the Blackberry Browsery. The down and side scrolling is ideal; the down lets you go through links at a medium pace, the side scroll gives you a slower more detailed scroll. Hitting the space bar lets you zoom past items.

It's nice that Opera uses the side scroll to zoom past items, but it means the down scroll takes years on a link crowded page (think Google Reader Mobile).

The shortcuts with the Blackberry Browser are also superior. I hit "k" and I see my shortcuts. I hit "r" and the page refreshes, I hit "h" and I get my homepage (Remember the Milk). It's way more complicated with Opera.

Pros of Opera are that it loads a lot faster, especially when you account for the data flow initiation. And the Blackberry Browser doesn't seem to cache, which Opera does and really speeds up browsing if you don't mind a static / non-refreshed version of the previous page.

Combine the above, and I'm a happy browsing camper.

You win some, you lose some, then you win again

My wife got me one of the best birthday presents ever, and with a little help from a great friend, we ended up two rows behind Maryland's bench for their home opener against Bucknell.

So for me, it was an alumni showdown.

If Gary knew Grieivis was smiling, he would have yelled:

This was nearly the only time Gary wasn't yelling, and it's blurry because of his rumored pregame tequila shot ritual:
